Yeah, because, Lord knows we didn't have enough Bobby cowboy tunes.

I always thought the problem was not the songs, but that he played the same 5 songs a billon times . I mean there are lots and lots of country songs he could have done well with the Dead ( 'Big Iron' would have fit ).
I believe in David Gans "Conversations with The Dead", the issue is brought up to Garcia twice . In the first interview ( early 80's ?), he sort of laughs it off , sort of "Oh that Bobby" . In the second interview (later 80's ?) the subject clearly is more annoying to him , I wasn't funny anymore !
Also , I wondered why didn't drop them . Stylistic , he moved away from his country period, into a more urban sounding, "I want to be a blues singer now" period . As the 80's progress, these songs sound less, and less convincing .

LOL! I have seen this diddy on a couple of Ratdog setlists, but I do not believe he has played it with The Dead or Furthur.

My view was that fundamentally, M&MU and BIron are the "same" song...right? So, having been doing the one, they couldn't start doing the other...

I am not sure how many songs you could point to and say "these are identical songs in general structure, theme, etc., etc." but aren't these two the ONE?

I think that Contract would have been a better choice...ie, for the DEAD to do.

Don't recall ever hearing Kingfish do Contract. I think Goodbye Yer Honor (NRPS and Kingfish) would have been a good alternative oater for the Dead.
